Mothers' Union

St Michael's branch of the MU was formed on 16th November 1921 with 20 members.
At the moment we have just over 35 members most of whom attend regularly. These are held on the first Wednesday of each month in the church reception area from 7.00pm to approx. 9.00pm. Over the last year, we've had speakers on The work of the MU overseas, fostering children, infant education, the fabulous 50's, researching family trees and our favourite hymns
We have our summer meal and Christmas at a local hotel and joined with other members of the deanery for a Quiet Evening, Lady Day, Summer Festival and Advent Carols.
The MU Away From it all scheme provides financial support for needy families or individuals within the deanery to have a short holidays a day out or some respite from the caring role. The Branch has always been closely associated AFIA and supports this very generously with a coffee morning in February. We have our own stall at the November Fair on the 1st Saturday in November and our members are involved with many other stalls too.
A MU initiative that we have incorporated into our branch activities is the formation of the Tots Group. This has been going now for 14 years and is very popular. The children have a wonderful time, and the mams have an opportunity to meet new friends and support each other.
The 7 MU members who are involved, enjoy the interaction with the young mums and toddlers and are looked upon as supporting "grannies".
Mothers' Union is a worldwide organisation which is open to anyone baptised into the Christian Church. Its aim is to nurture the Christian Religion in marriage and family life. We try to achieve this by teaching, prayer, support of parents and families, awareness of the worldwide MU community and help for those whose family life has met with difficulty.
Anyone who wants further information on the St Michael's branch of the MU, can contact the Parish Office (01900 604450).
