Weddings

We are delighted that you are thinking of getting married in our historic church

The first thing to do is check if one (or both) of you has a qualifying connection with St Michael's, according to the rules laid down by the Church of England. Everyone in England lives in a Church in England parish and you have an automatic right to be married in their Parish Church. It is now much easier for people to get married in a church, which is not your Parish Church, providing they have a qualifying connection.

A person has a qualifying connection with a parish if:
  • Either of you:
    • has at any time lived in the parish of St Michael's for a period of at least 6 months
    • was baptised in at St Michael's
    • was prepared for confirmation in St Michael's
    • has at any time regularly gone to normal church services at St Michael's for a period of at least 6 months
  • That one of your parents, at any time after you were born:
    • has lived in the parish of St Michael's for a period of at least 6 months
    • has regularly gone to normal church services at St Michael's for a period of at least 6 months
  • That one of your parents or grandparents:
    • was married in the parish.
