We at St. Michaels are very proud of the work we do in the support of those members of society who are less fortunate than ourselves. St Michael's supports several charities to varying degrees.
Many people hold their own personal collecting box for the Church of England Children's Society. Our Children's Society Committee raise a huge amount of money, regularly emptying the boxes and forwarding the money to the society. Our annual Christingle service on the Sunday before Christmas, is always well supported and raises not only much needed cash, but also awareness of the work of the Children's Society.
A member of the congregation holds an annual coffee morning for Macmillan Nurses which many of the congregation support, and our Bishop of Carlisle's Harvest for the Hungry appeal is also well supported.
In addition to charities, social functions and fund raising events organised by St Michael's have helped The Great North Air Ambulance, Hospice at Home, Cancer Research, USPG, Corremelia Link, Leprosy Mission, Age Concern, The Bible Society, Additional Curate Society, St Michael's Uniformed Organisations, Shelter, Mission to Sea Farers, Christmas in Company, Sea Cadets, Victoria Junior School, St Michael's Nursery and Infant School and Students linked with St Michaels to name but a few.
